Hunter Shinkaruk and the Utica Comets continue to roll as they now find themselves at the top of the AHL’s Western Conference.


Cole Cassels had a two-assist effort on Friday before being held off the score sheet Saturday as his Generals took a 2-0 series lead over Niagara in the second round of the OHL Playoffs.

Nicklas Jensen snapped a seven-game goal scoring drought on Tuesday night with his 13th tally of the season. Jensen played in two of the Comets’ four games during the week as the club looks to rest a few bodies ahead of the post-season.

Jacob Markstrom made 20 saves in his return to the Comets on Sunday, picking up a 2-1 victory. Markstrom was also named to the AHL Second All-Star Team this past week.

Jared McCann had a point in three straight games as the Greyhounds opened up a commanding 3-0 series lead over Guelph. Battling a hand injury, McCann had an assist on Wednesday and Thursday before scoring his second of the post-season Sunday afternoon.

Hunter Shinkaruk saw his five-game goal scoring streak come to an end last week, but not to worry, he went ahead and started a new three-game streak. Shinkaruk found the back of the net on Friday and Saturday, while scoring once and assisting on the game-winner Sunday. He now has eight goals in his last 10 games.
