by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that defenceman Luc Bourdon has been assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Bourdon, 20, has played in nine games with the Canucks this season prior to being returned to the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on November 8th, 2006. The 6'2", 211 lbs. defenceman appeared in 13 games with the Moncton Wildcats, registering 14 points (3-11-14) and 28 penalty minutes, before being acquired by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. With Cape Breton, Bourdon appeared in 23 regular season games, notching six points (1-5-6) and 45 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 16 playoff games with the Screaming Eagles, registering 13 points (2-11-13) and 28 penalty minutes.

Bourdon also played in his second consecutive IIHF Under-20 World Championships, netting four points (2-2-4) and six penalty minutes in six games, winning his second straight gold medal with Team Canada.

The Shippagan, New Brunswick-native was Vancouver's 1st choice, 10th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Acquired: Vancouver's 1st choice, 10th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Skill: Possesses a heavy accurate slap shot that has been clocked at 92 MPH. Plays with intensity at times.

Scouting Report: At first glance this New Brunswick native appears to be everything you look for in a defenceman with good size and strength to go along with fantastic mobility. His puck movement skills are solid and he make a good first pass to start the rush, equally adept in transition on a turnover. His downfall is gambling to push a play instead of making a safer decision. The main weapon in his game is his exceptional skating ability. Displays good leadership ability and will go to war for any of his teammates. Excels at dishing out physical punishment.
