Canucks Announce Team Awards at Fan Appreciation

...Bo Horvat wins MVP and Most Exciting Player Award

VANCOUVER, B.C. - The Vancouver Canucks announced their annual player awards for the 2016.17 season in a pre-game ceremony before hosting Edmonton for their final home game of the season.

Bo Horvat was the recipient of two awards as voted by fans: the Cyclone Taylor "Most Valuable Player" award and the Pavel Bure "Most Exciting Player" award. Horvat currently leads the Canucks in goals (20) and points (51) and is the eighth Canucks player to reach the 20-goal plateau before the age of 22 and the first to do so since Daniel Sedin in 2000.01. The Canucks representative at the 2017 NHL All-Star Game,Horvat is on pace to become the third youngest player in Canucks history to lead the team in scoring.

Markus Granlund was voted by fans as the Fred J. Hume "Unsung Hero" award winner. Granlund set career-highs in goals (19), assists (13) and points (32). His four-game point streak (2-2-4) from Feb. 7-12 was also a career-high as was his 7 shots on net on Mar. 18 at Edmonton.

Troy Stecher was voted by fans as winner of the Walter (Babe) Pratt "Best Defenceman" award in his first NHL season. In 69 games played, Stecher leads Canucks defencemen in points (24) and ranks fourth on the team in assists (21). Stecher also ranks eighth in rookie TOI/game with 20:02, 19th in rookie shots with 122, t-15th in rookie blocked shots with 64, and fifth in rookie defencemen assists.

Ryan Miller received the Three Stars Award for most selections this season (October, December, January and March winner). From Dec. 28 to Jan. 6, Miller had a season-high 5 game win streak, posting a .955 save percentage as well as one shutout during that period. In the month of January, he also ranked second in the League in both save percentage (.944) and goals-against average (1.76). In March, Miller faced the most shots against (415) and ranked second in saves (379) and appeared in his 700th career game on Mar. 13 vs Boston, becoming the 25th goaltender in League history to reach the milestone.

The winner of the Cyrus H. McLean "Leading Scorer" award will be confirmed on Sunday evening.
