VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks, in conjunction with General Motors of Canada, are proud to announce that Mitch Benke of Penticton, British Columbia has won the 2008 Telethon Car Draw. In 2007-08, more than $1,000,000 was raised for the 18th annual Canucks for Kids Fund Telethon, presented by Chevrolet, with all proceeds benefiting the Vancouver Canucks luminary charity, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
"We are huge Canuck fans and have been aware of Canuck Place for many years,” said Benke. “We were watching the game and just seeing the players interact with the children hit a soft spot. My wife and I both have so much to be thankful for and that is why we made the donation.”
Canuck Place celebrates its 13th anniversary this year, offering specialized care for children with progressive life-threatening illnesses. This unique healthcare facility serves to enhance quality of life through comprehensive and family-centred care.
Benke will receive a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid courtesy of General Motors of Canada Limited.
The Vancouver Canucks would like to extend their gratitude to all those who have donated to the CFKF Telethon, presented by Chevrolet, for their generous contributions. The Vancouver Canucks would also like to thank TELUS, their volunteers, Rogers Sportsnet and the TEAM 1040 and its CHUM affiliates.
