Vancouver, BC – Mark Minnis of Nanaimo, B.C. has won the second “You Call the Shots Contest” presented by Direct Energy and the Vancouver Canucks. Mark and three guests were treated to an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of experiencing a day in the life of an NHL General Manager.

"I've been a Canucks fan all my life and watch almost every game on TV," says Minnis, who was one of thousands who entered the online contest. "When I found out I was the winner, I immediately started calling all my friends and family to tell them I was going to a game in the GM's private box."

Minnis and his guests began their adventure by visiting with General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks, Mike Gillis, in his office and then attending the morning skate at General Motors Place. They had their photo taken at centre ice with Mike and received a team-autographed jersey. After their photo shoot, they took a private, guided tour of the facility. The day concluded with a dinner at the Sterling Vineyards Room in General Motors Place and seats in the General Manager’s private box to watch the Canucks take on the Nashville Predators.

“We are very proud to have Direct Energy as partner, better enabling the Vancouver Canucks to provide memorable experiences for our fans,” said Gillis. “The ‘You Call the Shots Contest’ not only allows our fans to get to better learn about the behind the scenes work done at professional sports organization but also gives us the opportunity to sit down and find out about our fans because of this exciting business venture.”

Along with his girlfriend, Mark brought his father and a friend – also passionate Canucks fans. “It’s tough to pick a highlight because there were so many,” says Minnis. “Meeting Mike Gillis was great – he’s such a nice guy – running into some the players and having photos with some of them, doing some interviews. It was unreal; we all had a really good time.”

“Direct Energy’s partnership with the Canucks demonstrates our commitment to our customers and the communities in which we operate,” said Tanis Kozak, Vice President and General Manager Canada. “Like the Canucks, we’re passionate about building long-term relationships with our customers, and knowing you’ve helped to make a loyal fan’s dream come true is a great feeling.”
