Canucks 2007 Entry Draft Recap

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have selected centre Patrick White, defenceman Taylor Ellington, centre Charles-Antoine Messier, centre Ilja Kablukov, forward Tyler Matson and right wing Dan Gendur in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

White, 18, was selected in the first round, 25th overall in this year’s Draft. Splitting the 2006-07 season between Tri-City (USHL) and Grand Rapids (High ‘ MN), the Minnesota native played 12 games recording nine points (8-1-9) and four penalty minutes for Tri-City and scored 36 points with 16 penalty minutes in 17 games with Grand Rapids.

Vancouver’s second pick of the Draft was Taylor Ellington, selected in the 2nd round, 33rd overall. The 6’2’, 208-pound defenceman has played three seasons with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. Last season Ellington recorded five goals, eight assists (5-8-13) and 65 penalty minutes in 60 games played for the Silvertips. The Victoria, B.C. native helped Everett capture the WHL U.S. Division title in the 2006-07 season.

Charles-Antoine Messier was selected next by Vancouver in the 5th round, 145th overall. The 5’11’, 165-pound centre has played two seasons with Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL and scored 48 points (27-21-48) with 67 penalty minutes in 69 games over the 2006-07 season.

Vancouver selected its next pick immediately following 18 year-old Messier, choosing Ilja Kublokov 146th overall in the 5th round. Kublokov, 19, played 24 games during the 2006-07 season with CSKA Moscow. The 6’2’, 190-pound centre has also played six games for Russia at the World Junior Championships in 2006.

With Vancouver’s 6th round pick of the 2007 Draft, the Canucks selected Taylor Matson, 176th overall. Matson, 18, played ten games with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL in 2006-07. The 6’0’, 180-pound forward is a native of Orono, ME.

Dan Gendur was selected as Vancouver’s final pick of the Draft, in the 7th round, 206th overall. The 5’11’, 195-pound right winger scored 42 points in 48 games (20-22-48) and collected 44 penalty minutes with the Everett Silvertips in the 2006-07 season. Gendur, 20, is a native of Victoria, B.C.
