On Sunday February 21st Sears, thanks to their partnership with MasterCard, hosted Canucks Alumni Garth Butcher and Richard Brodeur for an in-store appearance. The players appeared at the Downtown Robson Sears to create excitement about the MasterCard, Sears and Chase Priceless Hockey promotion.
Garth Butcher was the first Alumni member to meet fans. Butcher signed autographs and took pictures from 10:30am to 1pm. Next up was Richard Brodeur who went from 1:30 to 3pm. Both players were a huge hit and had lineups throughout their hour and a half appearances.
To promote the event, Sears decorated all their in-store stands with event information posters and had their staff members handing out leaflets and directing people to come meet members of the Canucks Alumni. In addition, they brought in a MasterCard branded Zambonies into the store, which had the Canucks Alumni mark in addition to the date of the appearance. These proved to be popular with the international tourists as they were lined up all day to pose in front of them. In addition to Butcher, Brodeur and the Zamboni, fans were also able to take photos with people dressed as hockey players, which proved to be a great idea as fans loved it.
All in all the day was a huge hit and everyone left happy.Story by Leah Peden, Canucks Centre Student Associate
