The Vancouver Canucks 2016-17 schedule was released Tuesday and it offers something for everyone.
Here’s a breakdown:
-The Canucks play seven pre-season games, including home and away games with Calgary, Edmonton and San Jose, alongside one visit from Arizona.
-Vancouver’s season opener is also its home opener, Saturday, October 15th, vs. Calgary.
-Season ends Sunday, April 9th, in Edmonton.
-There are three breaks in the schedule: December 24-27 (Christmas), Jan 27-Feb 1 (All-star) and Feb 20-24 (bye week).
-The Canucks hit the road 13 times, with a breakdown of trips as follows: one game x 3, two games x 2, three games x 4, five games x 2 and six games x 2. The two six-game swings are Nov 2-Nov 10 (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, NYI, NYR, Detroit) and Feb 7-16 (Nashville, Columbus, Boston, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, St. Louis).
-The longest of Vancouver’s 13 homestands is five games from Mar 7-16 (Montreal, NYI, Pittsburgh, Boston and Dallas).
-Saturday is the busiest night of the week for the Canucks with 19 games overall, nine at Rogers Arena.
-Tuesday and Thursday have 17 games apiece, nine Tuesday home games and seven in Vancouver for Thursday.
-Friday has eight games, six at home, with only one game played on a Friday after All-Star break.
-Wednesday has five games, two at home, and none post-All-Star break.
-Monday Night Football fans will be happy to hear there are only three Monday evening games, two at Rogers Arena, one on the road.
-The Canucks will play 16 back-to-back games, three with consecutive games in Vancouver, nine on the road and four home and away or vice versa. Only twice will the Canucks face the same team home then away; Calgary Jan 6th and 7th and Edmonton Apr 8th and 9th. (Vancouver plays San Jose home then away in early April, but not back-to-back).
-The only other time Vancouver plays the same team twice consecutively, although not back-to-back, is hosting Winnipeg December 20th and 22nd. Very odd, indeed.
-Only five home games have a start time other than 7 p.m. PT: November 13th vs. Dallas 1 p.m., December 3rd vs. Toronto 4 p.m., December 18th vs. Columbus 1 p.m., January 15th vs. New Jersey 4 p.m. and April 2nd vs. San Jose 4 p.m.
