Prospects camp came to an end today, but not without one final test: the Grouse Grind. What’s the Grouse Grind? "It’s a mountain you hike," is what I was told. The truth is that it’s a challenging 1.8 mile trail with almost 3,000 stairs going up, up and up.
I was teamed with Cederholm, Hutton, Caito, Lane and McLean and we crushed it, although Sautner, Neill, Olson, Lemcke, Ginn and Witt ended up with the best time. This was a nice change of pace, a perfect way to end camp and start the weekend for sure.
Back to Thursday, when we got to Vancouver we headed pretty much straight to the BC Children’s Hospital to visit with some sick kids and hopefully make their days a little better. We met Taylor, Will, Lou, Maddie, Selena, Emma, Steven, Jason, Cole, Kale, Abdu, Tia, Steven, Keelan, Ailah and Cody and they were the nicest, bravest kids I’ve ever met. Stay strong everyone, thank you for spending time with us.
At the Canucks season ticket member event later on that night at Rogers Arena, we met fans, posed for photos and signed autographs. There are a lot of passionate Canucks fans who are very excited to have us prospects in the line-up. We’re all equally excited to play in front of such a great fan base.
I was one of five players who went up on stage during the Q&A portion of the night; nothing was too grilling and we got to play two truths and a lie. My three facts were that my favourite colour is blue, that I hate carrots and that Brock means badger. The fans easily guessed I hated carrots and they were right – keep that orange evil away from me!
With camp now complete, I head back home, and I’ll spend the rest of the summer training before giving the 2015-16 season everything I have. Now that I’ve got an NHL team as an end goal and I’ve met the fans and sat in that locker room, I understand what it means to be part of the Vancouver Canucks organization. It’s a responsibility I’m honored to have.
And my blogging career ends right abouuuuut….now!
