It was another fun day at camp Sunday and after not skating for a few weeks, the highlight was definitely lacing them up for practice. We did some intense drills, a lot of battle drills and coaches made it clear they want you to win those battles, so I was gassed by the end of the day.
The afternoon featured an Olympic lifting demonstration and being a gym guy (I love getting a good sweat on in the gym), I was all ears trying to take in as much new information on different techniques that I could. Don’t be surprised if I look like The Rock soon!
We had a few hours to ourselves in the afternoon and that time coincided nicely with the Women’s World Cup Final, which USA dominated throughout. There’s not much to say about that; simply put, it was one of the finest displays of teamwork ever. Congratulations!
Dinner was again beyond delicious (burger bar!) and then we had some more team building afterwards. For the scavenger hunt I was paired with Kyle Pettit, Carl Neill, Clay Witt and Rob Hamilton, and although we got lost on quite a few occasions and thought we definitely finished last, we placed third somehow! Bronze it is.
That’s all for now. Another full day Monday and it’s an open practice in the morning. I’m looking forward to meeting Canucks fans from the Shawnigan Lake community.
Finally, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the wildfires. It’s been hazy here, but that’s nothing compared to what we’ve been hearing is going on in other parts of British Columbia. Stay safe.
