I’ll admit I missed spending the day with family and friends celebrating America’s birthday, but there’s nowhere I would have rather been than at Canucks Prospects Development camp in Shawnigan Lake, BC.
I’ve been asked to blog throughout camp and let’s just say I’m not much of a writer, I’ve never blogged before. So give me a chance!
It’s a little nerve-wracking being one of the new guys at camp, but everyone from the coaching staff to my teammates have been really warm and welcoming. Our first night here we did some team bonding and had to pass a tennis ball from one player to the next, from neck to neck, without using our hands. It was as funny as it sounds and we were all pretty relaxed after having a good laugh together.
Our first real day featured medicals and a lot of testing, both on the ice and in the weight room. It was a lot of hard work, luckily I had gone through most of those tests before with different teams I’ve played on, so there were no surprises, just planks, which never get any easier.
I’ve been spending most of our down time getting to know as many players as I can; Adam Gaudette was the only person I knew coming in. I flew here alongside Thatcher Demko, so two players down, 26 to go! Both those guys love Ping-Pong as much as I do, so we’re getting along just great.
I’m not too sure what’s on the agenda today, but I’ve got a good breakfast in me already (the food here is great!), so I’m ready for whatever. I heard talk of a scavenger hunt…?!
I’ll find time to blog everyday this camp, but please let me know what you want me to write about – camp can’t be as exciting to you as it is to me!
