Canucks photographer Jeff Vinnick joined the team for their four-game road swing through Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, and Edmonton.
He's kindly agreed to share a few thoughts, and hopefully and slew of pictures over the next week as he captures action behind the scenes. SAN JOSE, Day Four
So we’re about to play the second of back-to-back games in California. I now know what the word grueling truly means.
The guys played a great game last night winning a hard-fought victory and coming away with a win in the house that Burkie built. It’s no wonder Nonis had such a big smile on his face on the plane. It was almost as big a grin as the ones glued onto the faces of Mason and Jaff.
The pair, just after being called up from the frozen farm, both notched their first career NHL goals, both against the reigning cup champs. Think they'll ever forget that game?
As the photo of them with their pucks shows, they were two proud hockey players. And give them full credit, that’s not an easy jump. They were skating in Manitoba on Tuesday, where it was -35 (with the wind chill) and were in the line-up for Wednesday night’s game in Anaheim. Talk about an upgrade though: Jaffray went from Golden Boy on the farm to the NHL’s star of the night in under 24 hours. Impressive.
Once again, without any time to savour the victory, the guys are packed up and out of the building in 20 minutes and onto the bus for a 45 minute ride to the Ontario airport (yes, it’s in California).
Another hour up and down to the airport in Oakland, and another 45 minute bus ride to the hotel in San Jose. I think I finally hit the sheets at about 2 am, and I'm sure it was the same for the players.
With such a late night, and two points in the kitty, coach V excused the team from the game day skate. Rest is definitely in order. Another big game tonight against the Sharks – there’s some bad blood brewing in San Jose.
Just think, only two more back-to-back games left in December. Merry Christmas!
