On November 20th 2009, 11 delegates from across the province met at General Motors Place in Vancouver to begin the 2009 Mentorship Training Seminar. This seminar aimed at training new delegates to facilitate Specialty Clinics as well as become resources for other BC Hockey, Canuck Centre and Hockey Canada events. Delegates from Port McNeil to Kelowna and as far as Kitimat came down for the three day clinic. During their time at GM Place, delegates were treated to a guest presentation by Vancouver Giants Head Coach Don Hay, discussions and on ice instruction from BC Hockey Branch Mentorship Coordinator George Cochrane.
Rod Brathwaite (Canucks Centre) and Kevin Bathurst (Hockey Canada) talked about their respective programs and the roles that the Mentorship delegates would have in their facilitation. On Sunday delegates also attended Coaching Day in BC which involved a showcase of various Specialty Clinic drills by two BC Hockey teams. These teams were lead by Specialty Clinic Instructor Craig Sherbaty (BC Hockey) and Kevin Bathurst (Hockey Canada). This showcase was followed by game-day skates from the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks. Delegates and conductors deemed the weekend a success and look forward to future mentorship training clinics.
