Aaron Miller's Media Blitz

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

Apparently it’s a big deal and people are buzzing about Helio Castroneves and Julienne Hough. Of course, they won the competition and it’s Hough’s second consecutive win – what else is the buzz about?

Dancing with the Stars has made ballroom dancing much more prominent and even caught the attention of Canucks defenseman, Aaron Miller.

“It’s Hollywood, I just love the whole scene. I think I’m pulling for Marie Osmond – feel good story.”

Make no mistake, ballroom dancing is not Miller's hidden passion – he’ll watch it on TV, but you won't see him signing up for lessons any time soon.

“Sometimes hip hop dancing, I’ll get into that a little bit. I’m more of a by-the-seat-of-my-pants dancer, but I do enjoy hip hop music.”

After a grinding schedule, between all the games and travel, a good mind numbing sedative is perfect. It calms those nerves and drains away the stresses of the day. Miller’s got the perfect prescription.

“We read a lot of trashy magazines on the plane, just to keep abreast with all the going-ons in Hollywood. That’s about it – but it’s really not reading, it’s more of just looking at pictures. I like them all, US and Star and some Maxim too – not much educational value, but it passes time.”

What’s the story of the moment?

“I’m really involved with the whole Britney thing and what’s going on with her. She’s having her ups and downs so I’m trying to stay on top of that.”

That’s a lot to keep up on, but when you’re on Team Britney, things are bound for an up-turn soon enough – at least Miller’s staying positive about it.

“I’d really like to see her turn it around, she’s got a rough go at it right now but we’re pulling for her and I think the whole team’s really pulling for her.”
With three kids, a schedule that keeps him somewhere between an airport and an ice rink for eight months of the year, and hardly any “down” time, when Miller find it tough to squeeze a good movie in. When there is time, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll find him surrounded by a group of the most spirited people around.

“Every movie I see is pretty much a kid movie, but I enjoy them.”

Of course, the opportunity to spend with Grace, Ava, and Sullivan makes it more enjoyable, but it doesn't end there. It's that certain something about theatres that makes the experience extra enjoyable.

“The popcorn and the nachos are my favourite part.”

It comes as no surprise that the last movie Miller saw in the theatres was “Ratatouille”, featuring Brian Dennehy, Peter O’Toole, and Janeane Garofalo. The animated flick follows a rat’s journey as he attempts to fulfill a dream despite some uncontrollable circumstances.

It's actually available on DVD now (just to give you an idea of the whole busy schedule he contends with).
 Best album of all time?

“Any Bruce Springsteen album.  I love all of them – old stuff, new stuff – he’s my favourite.”

From “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” to “Born in the U.S.A.” and now “Magic”, who can choose?  Miller couldn’t.

There’s nothing like seeing your favourite band in person and actually feeling the vibrations of the amps under your feet.

“In Colorado about seven or eight years ago and I’d love to do it again.”

Lucky for Miller, the Boss is making his way around the country and stopping in Vancouver on March 31st.  While the team will be in town, it’s also sandwiched between two divisional games near the season’s conclusion, so it might be a tough one to get to.
Where else would you go to get information on hockey?  The obvious choice is and just because he plays in the league, it doesn’t make his hockey source any different than anyone else’s.

“I go to that a lot to check scores, some stories but pretty boring.”

That seems pretty obvious, but Miller’s also venturing into something different and he’s putting out an advertisement on for any takers.

“Also I’m trying to buy some land in Vermont so if anyone’s listening, about 100 acres in Northeast Vermont, give me a call.”

(Sorry we can’t actually give out his number.)

Known for their maple syrup and farming culture, Vermont is the perfect place for his family and the outdoorsy type.

And though he didn't mention it specifically, Miller loves, especially the fun features like Media Blitz, Back Page, and King of the Rink.
