On July 22, 2009 Aberdeen Golf Course in Prince George was host to the 6th annual Commonwealth Cup. The annual golf tournament raises money for children’s programs at The Exploration Place Science Center and Museum and the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
President and Chairman Daniel McLaren and the Commonwealth Financial team put on another excellent event which was attended by Canucks Alumni. On hand this year was Orland Kurtenbach, B.J MacDonald, Gary Monahan, Dennis Kearns and Jason LaBarbera.
After an enjoyable round of golf the Alumni attended a banquet held at the Coast Inn where they were guest and keynote speakers for the large crowd. After a video welcome by BC’s Premier Gordon Campbell, the Alumni entertained the crowd and helped to present awards from the golf tournament. A VIP barbeque and auction was also held at Daniel McLaren’s lakeside cabin, which helped the fundraising efforts.
Exploration Place is owned and operated by the Fraser-Fort George Regional Museum Society and is a nonprofit and registered charity. They provide an educational adventure for children and adults to have a hands on approach to science and history. They are constantly featuring new exciting exhibits such as the last day of the Titanic and the evolution of the motorcycle.
