The Vancouver Canuck Alumni celebrated their 2nd annual Christmas skate on December 22nd at 8- Rinks in Burnaby. Over 160 family members of 33 different Canuck Alumni got into the Christmas spirit with multi generations of Alumni greats such as Dennis Kerns, Chris Oddleifson, Greg Boddy, and Larry Melnyk enjoying hot chocolate, Christmas goodies and, of course, skating. And what would be Christmas without a visit from Santa who required a bit of extra help this year and got it from kiddie favourite and Nr 1 Canuck supporter Fin. Both Santa and Fin worked their magic at center ice spreading holiday cheer and tons for gifts for all of the children. This year the Alumni extended a very special invitation to the Boys and Girls Club who honoured the Alumni by sending 8 boys to enjoy all of the festivities.
Not only are the youngest generation of Alumni talented skaters but who would have thought there was such musical talent as well! Phil von Stefenellis’ family singers of Lucy, Jessica and Hanna started us off with a bang followed by three unbelievable performances including Lynden Boddy (4 year old grandson of Canuck Alumni Gregg Boddy).
The organizing committee would like to extend special thanks to all those that contributed especially Greg Neeld, Debbie Anderson, Wendy Watts and Ellen McIntosh. An old fashioned community group effort has successfully turned the Christmas Skate into an Alumni highlight with plans for next year already in process!
