The Vancouver Canucks and BC Hockey are proud to announce the 15th annual Coaching Experience. Presented by Tim Hortons, the Tim Hortons Coaching Experience is a free event offered to all coaches from minor hockey and other leagues in British Columbia. The event recognizes the important contribution coaches make to hockey programs throughout the province. Participants will be offered on and off ice seminars from special guests in the hockey community including a visit from Vancouver Canucks' head coach Travis Green. Coaches will also receive a take-home resource manual and the chance to win great prizes.
On Saturday October 20th The Vancouver Canucks, Tim Hortons and BC Hockey hosted their annual Coaching Day in BC now Called the Tim Hortons Coaches Experience. Close to 90 coaches from a variety of age categories and associations arrived at Rogers arena for a free one day coaching seminar. The Tim Hortons Coaches Experience is a great opportunity for minor hockey coaches to learn about season planning and drill progression. Coaches in attendance received hot coffee and tim bits courtesy of Tim Hortons to fuel themselves throughout the day.
Joey Kenward of Sportsnet 650 kicked off the morning with an introduction of a team from the Vancouver Angels Minor Hockey association and their coaches who were put through the paces by BC Hockey course conductor Craig Sherbaty. Sherbaty, a long-time contributor to the event commented: "I always have the Tim Hortons coaching seminar marked on my calendar as it not only is a great way to stay current and fresh but it also allows me to network with coaches who are out in our community rinks working with our young athletes". After the Angels had completed their on ice session, coaches in attendance received a true behind the scenes look at the NHL up close. Elias Petterson came on the ice with Vancouver Canucks skills coach Glenn Carnegie who was working him back into game shape. The on-ice portion wrapped up with a full team practice by both the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins.
After watching Vancouver and Boston prepare for the game that night, the group of minor hockey coaches headed up to the Sports Bar located in Rogers Arena for lunch and a couple off ice presentations from Craig Sherbaty (BC Hockey Course Conductor) and Vancouver Canucks goaltending coach Ian Clark. Sherbaty led the off ice session with a discussion about the importance of Long Term Player Development. The session was incredibly interactive prompting several coaches to ask questions on the topic. Following this discussion, Canucks goaltending coach Ian Clark spoke about the seven key elements to look for in your goaltender. The goaltending information was invaluable which again led to a number of questions and short demonstrations by Clark.
The Tim Hortons Coaches Experience day ended with some grand prizes which included a 2018/19 team signed jersey along with a pair of Club 500 tickets to an upcoming Canucks home game.
Tim Hortons, BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks would like to thank all the coaches who took the time to come to Rogers Arena and attend this year's event.
