MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens announced Wednesday that defenseman Yannick Weber has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Yannick Weber was called up from the Bulldogs on January 1st. At the time of his recall, he led the Bulldogs’ defensemen in scoring with 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) and five power-play tallies. The 20-year-old played his first NHL game on January 7, helping the Canadiens to a 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Weber was held scoreless in that game, and registered two shots on goal in 15 minutes of ice-time.

Weber, a Canadiens’ third-round selection, 73rd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, captained Switzerland last season at the World Junior Championship.

He will join the Bulldogs today in Hamilton.
