by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

Tomas Plekanec finds himself on a list of the first 16 players named to the Czech Republic contingent that will hit the ice at the World Cup of Hockey in September. The initial list was revealed on Wednesday.

The team captain at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Plekanec is quite familiar with international competition, having already represented his country twice in the Olympics, seven times at the World Hockey Championship – winning two bronze medals and a silver medal – and at the World Junior Hockey Championship on two occasions, where he also won gold in 2001. The veteran centerman will be making his first appearance at the World Cup of Hockey.
