TORONTO – Here's a numerical look at Wednesday night's season opener between the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.
7 – Number of consecutive years in which the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs have gone head-to-head on the opening night of the season. It’s a tradition that began back on October 1st, 2009 at the Air Canada Centre.
107 – Number of times the Canadiens have played a season-opener dating back to the first of such games on January 5, 2010 against the Cobalt Silver Kings.
400 – Number of games captain Max Pacioretty has played over the course of his NHL career, including Wednesday night’s tilt at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The New Canaan, CT native marked the occasion by scoring early in the first period to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead.
0 – Number of NHL teams against which Max Pacioretty has scored more goals than the Toronto Maple Leafs after registering his 13th career tally against the Canadiens’ Original Six rivals on Wednesday night.
2 – Number of consecutive seasons in which Max Pacioretty has scored the first goal of the NHL regular season, accomplishing that same feat again on Wednesday night. Interestingly enough, Jonathan Bernier was between the pipes for the Maple Leafs last season, too, when Pacioretty lit the lamp.
16 – Number of years that have elapsed since video replay was instituted in the National Football League and its debut in the NHL this season. The first coach’s challenge in league history came on Wednesday night as Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock elected to challenge Jeff Petry’s second-period goal. It was eventually disallowed due to incidental contact with the goaltender.
43 – Percentage of the Canadiens' total shots on goal through two periods of play that were generated by the line of Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher. Plekanec led the way for the Habs with five shots through 40 minutes of play.
2 – Number of players who made their regular season debuts with the Canadiens on Wednesday night, including Alexander Semin and Tomas Fleischmann. In doing so, they joined the ranks of the 853 other players who've sported the CH over the years.
70 – Percentage of draws won by Alex Galchenyuk on Wednesday night, as the talented forward played his first regular-season game at center since head coach Michel Therrien and general manager Marc Bergevin elected to make it his full-time position just prior to the start of training camp.
4 – Number of Canadiens captains in franchise history who’ve managed to score a goal in their first game sporting the "C". Max Pacioretty joined that elite group on Wednesday night, which already included Toe Blake, Yvan Cournoyer and Vincent Damphousse.
