The Numbers Game: November 14, 2015

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL – Here's a numerical look at Saturday night's game between the Canadiens and the Avalanche.

6,500 -- Number of games played by the Canadiens in franchise history following Saturday’s contest, a total which spans the club’s time in both the NHA and NHL.

3 -- Number of anthems which were performed at the Bell Centre prior to puck drop. In addition to the traditional American and Canadian anthems, the French national anthem was also performed -- along with a moment of silence being observed -- in tribute to the victims of Friday’s tragic events in Paris.

18 -- Number of Habs shots Avalanche goaltender Reto Berra faced in the first period alone on Saturday night. Despite outshooting Colorado 18-8 in the game’s opening 20 minutes, the Canadiens were held scoreless through one until Brendan Gallagher found the back of the net at 08:48 in the second.

4 -- Number of shots defenseman Tom Gilbert took at the Colorado net -- the team which originally drafted him 13 years ago. Saturday’s outing accounted for 25% of the 32-year-old’s total production in that category this season, having entered the contest with 12.

9 -- Number of points (2G-7A) Max Pacioretty has registered over nine career games against the Avalanche. The Habs captain maintained his 1.00 points per game average with an assist on Gallagher’s second-period goal on Saturday.

4 -- Number of consecutive games in which Pacioretty, Gallagher, and Plekanec have each registered at least one point.

1.00 -- Points per game averaged by Andrei Markov against the Colorado Avalanche over the course of his 15-year NHL career. In 12 meetings with the Avs, the Russian blue-liner has registered three goals and nine assists with a plus-5 differential.

5 -- Number of games Patrick Roy has won at the Bell Centre. Although his jersey hangs from the rafters, Roy has never represented the home side at the Canadiens’ current digs, earning four of those wins as the Avalanche’s goaltender, and the fifth, on Saturday night, as Colorado’s head coach.
