The Numbers Game - March 19, 2013

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL – Here's a numerical look at the matchup between the Habs and Sabres at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night.

91 – Number of game, including playoffs, that have gone by since the last time the Canadiens squared off against a Buffalo Sabres team that didn’t have Lindy Ruff commanding it from behind the bench.

2 – Number of times this season out the three meetings to date between the Sabres and the Habs, that Nathan Gerbe has been a healthy scratch from Buffalo’s lineup, making it difficult for the staff to come up with our traditional number about the NHL’s smallest player.

12– Number of times the Habs have lit the lamp against the Sabres over the course of three games in 2012-13, adding another 2 markers Tuesday night after lighting Buffalo up 6-1 at the Bell Centre on Feb. 2, and then recording four goals in a 5-4 shootout loss five days later.

5,603 – Number of days that have elapsed since a Tinordi laced up for an NHL game on Montreal ice, with Jarred Tinordi’s father Mark facing the Habs on Nov. 15, 1997 as a Washington Capital, before Jarred took to the Bell Centre ice as a member of the good guys on Tuesday night.

2 – Number of times that Alexei Emelin has dropped the gloves this season, with the Russian defenseman generally preferring to punish his opponents with crushing checks instead of over-hand rights, but still finally went toe-to-toe with the Sabres’ Marcus Foligno in Tuesday’s second period.

24:40 – Andrei Markov's ice time in regulation over the course of Tuesday’s game with the Canadiens defenseman seeing the most action out of any Canadiens skater in the match.

11 – Number of points put up by Max Pacioretty against the Sabres over the course of his career, putting them on even footing with the Bruins and Islanders when it comes to Patches’ production.
