The Numbers Game: March 16, 2015

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

TAMPA – Here's a numerical look at Monday's game between the Habs and the Lightning in Tampa.

12 – Number of games that defenseman Alexei Emelin missed before returning to the Canadiens’ lineup on Thursday night. The rugged Russian rearguard hadn’t played since February 18 when he suffered an upper-body injury against the Ottawa Senators.

16 – Number of fights that Brandon Prust has engaged in thus far during the 2014-15 campaign, adding to that team-leading tally by dropping the gloves twice with Lightning forward Mike Angelidis on Monday night. Prust ranks second in the League for the number of one-on-one tussles this season.

1 – Number of shifts Brian Flynn played on Monday night in Tampa before being forced to leave the game with an upper-body injury. Flynn, who took Torrey Mitchell’s spot in the lineup, had been a healthy scratch for the Canadiens’ previous two outings before drawing back in.

116 – Different between the number of times Brandon Prust (119) and Brendan Gallagher (3) have dropped the gloves over the course of their respective NHL careers. Gallagher put on quite a show in his bout with Vladislav Namestnikov, hammering his opponent with several quality right-hand strikes.

2 – Number of times Tomas Plekanec has lit the lamp in back-to-back games this season. After finding the back of the net during the first three games of the season, the Czech pivot scored for the second consecutive game on Monday night after tickling the twine on Saturday in Long Island.

108 – Number of days that elapsed since Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau last scored a goal, before breaking that streak on Monday night with his seventh goal of the season. The tally, which came under a minute into the third period, cut the Lightning lead to 3-2.
