The Numbers Game: January 6, 2016

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL - Here's a numerical look at Wednesday night's game against the Devils at the Bell Centre.

50 – Percentage of P.K. Subban’s points that have come with the man advantage this season, having picked up his 14th power play point – and 28th point overall – in the first period against the Devils.

13 – Number of power play assists racked up by Subban after chipping in with a helper on Max Pacioretty’s opening goal, good enough to rank him second among all NHL blue-liners behind only Erik Karlsson in that category.

10 – Number of times Pacioretty has enjoyed a point streak of five or more consecutive games in his career, including three in 2015-16, after registering a point on Wednesday for a fifth-straight game when he beat Cory Schneider to open the scoring.

10 – Consecutive number of seasons in which Tomas Plekanec has reached the 30-plus point plateau in his career, having failed to hit the benchmark just once – in his rookie NHL campaign.

1 – Number of penalty shots handed out during Canadiens games this season, with David Desharnais getting the honor of becoming the first Hab to attempt a penalty shot in 2015-16 in the second period.

8 – Number of shorthanded goals scored by the Habs this season following Paul Byron’s perfect pass to Torrey Mitchell to put the Canadiens up 2-0 on the kill, tying Montreal with Ottawa for the league lead in that category.

10 – Number of times Alexei Emelin has dished out five or more hits in a game this season, doing so again on Wednesday to bring his 2015-16 hit total to a team-leading 117.

70 – Percentage of the last 10 games between the Habs and Devils that have been decided by a single goal, including Wednesday’s tilt at the Bell Centre, which also marked a fourth-straight game that ended in a one-goal margin.
