The Numbers Game - Jan. 21, 2009

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
Here’s a numerical look at the Canadiens’ date with the Devils on Wednesday night in Newark.

8 – Consecutive games in which Andrei Markov has earned at least one assist to set a new team record among defensemen.

18 – Shifts for Saku Koivu in his return after missing 17 games.  The captain marked his return with an assist on Josh Gorges’ goal.

4 – Habs that had yet to blow out a first birthday candle when Brendan Shanahan made his NHL debut in October 1987.

12 – Straight starts for Carey Price in which the Canadiens had earned at least point before Wednesday’s loss.

0 – Teams that have successfully mounted a third-period comeback when trailing the Devils after 40 minutes.

7 – Straight Wednesday wins notched by the Habs before the streak was snapped against the Devils.  The last time the Canadiens dropped a midweek tilt: Feb. 14, 2007 against – who else? – New Jersey.

10 – Of 12 faceoffs won by Robert Lang.

2 – Games in which Matt D’Agostini has had gotten on the scoresheet twice on the same night. The first came shortly after his call-up, in early December.
