The Numbers Game: Game #5 - April 24, 2015

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL – Here's a numerical look at Game 5 between the Habs and Sens at the Bell Centre on Friday night.

28 – Number of times Canadiens goaltenders have claimed the Vezina Trophy over the years, with 12 different players accomplishing the feat. Carey Price, who was named a finalist for the award on Friday night, will try to add his name to that list in 2014-15. Jose Theodore was the last Canadiens netminder to take home the award, winning it back in 2002 along with the Hart Trophy as League MVP.

8:42 – Time elapsed in the opening period on Friday night before the Ottawa Senators managed to register their first shot on goal. Bobby Ryan tested Vezina Trophy nominee Carey Price, but was ultimately denied on the scoring opportunity. The Canadiens had already amassed seven shots at that point in the frame.

3 – Number of times over the course of the series in which the Canadiens have displayed good discipline in the first period, taking no penalties through 20 minutes of play in Game 3, Game 4 and Game 5.

6 – Number of hits Dale Weise dished out during Game 5 on Friday night. It was the second straight game that Weise had chipped in with that many hits, contributing a similar number in Game 4.

10 – Number of Canadiens players who registered at least three shots on goal in Game 5. Michel Therrien’s troops ended up firing 46 shots on Senators netminder Craig Anderson.

2010 – The last playoff run in which the Canadiens were blanked in two consecutive games, failing to light the lamp against the Philadelphia Flyers in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals. Tom Gilbert's goal early in the third period ensured the Canadiens weren't going to be blanked this time around.

5 – Number of shots that Tom Gilbert needed in the playoffs to score his first career NHL playoff goal. The American rearguard failed to score in five postseason outings with Minnesota, finally lighting the lamp in Game 5 courtesy of a rocket from the point.

5 – Number of players who’ve registered their first playoff point(s) with the Canadiens during the current postseason run. Tom Gilbert and Greg Pateryn added their names to that list on Friday night, joining Torrey Mitchell, Brian Flynn and Devante Smith-Pelly.
