The Numbers Game: December 5, 2015

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

RALEIGH - Here's a numerical look at Saturday night's game between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes in Raleigh.

100 – Number of games Tom Gilbert has played in a Canadiens uniform, following Saturday’s contest. Since being acquired as a free agent over the summer of 2014, Gilbert has registered four goals and nine assists as a Hab.

1 – Number of career NHL games it took Daniel Carr to score his first NHL goal, on his first shot, on his first shift, just 2:44 into the first period on Saturday night. Carr achieved the feat almost a year to the day after Sven Andrighetto did the same on December 6, 2014.

7 - Number of Canadiens players, including Carr, who have scored in their first NHL game since the 1999-2000 season. The others were Jason Ward (December 3, 1999), Marcel Hossa (January 10, 2002), Alexander Perezhogin (October 6, 2005), Jonathan Ferland (January 3, 2006), Max Pacioretty (January 2, 2009) and Andrighetto (December 6, 2014).

5 – Number of career points (1G-4A) Paul Byron had registered over four games against the Hurricanes heading into Saturday night. Byron is just one of three Habs to enjoy an average of at least one point per game against the Canes.

23 – Number of candles on Nathan Beaulieu’s birthday cake Saturday. The 23-year-old defenseman celebrated his birthday on a Habs game day for the first time in Carolina.

100 – Percent efficiency for Brian Flynn in the faceoff circle through two periods of play on Saturday. Flynn was perfect on all six of his draws over 40 minutes of play at PNC Arena.

50 – Percentage of Habs pointgetters on Saturday night who have been with the big club for two weeks or less. Carr, Andrighetto, and Christian Thomas – who began the first quarter of the season in St. John’s – all got onto the scoresheet, in addition to Flynn, Alex Galchenyuk, and Jeff Petry.

9 – Number of points Galchenyuk has racked up over his last eight games, including an assist on Andrighetto’s second-period goal on Saturday. The 21-year-old forward has picked up at least one point in seven of those outings.
