by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

TAMPA BAY - Here's a numerical look at the Habs-Lightning game on Tuesday night.

1 – Number of times new Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has gone up against the Canadiens this season, with Tuesday night’s tilt marking the first time the NHL superstar has battled the bleu-blanc-rouge. Stamkos had recorded eight goals and six assists in 19 career games versus Montreal entering the game.

5 – Number of saves Carey Price made in a seven-second sequence at the midway point of the first period on Tuesday night, keeping the Lightning at bay while they were pressing for a goal. Check out Price’s impressive effort here.

40 – Number of points Brendan Gallagher has collected during the 2013-14 campaign after picking up his 19th goal of the season to open the scoring on Tuesday night in Tampa. The NHL sophomore buried a rebound past Ben Bishop courtesy of a great individual effort from defenseman Mike Weaver to put the Canadiens ahead 1-0.

17 – Number of assists Alex Galchenyuk has recorded in 62 games this season, one short of matching the mark of 18 he set during his freshman year in the league in 2012-13. The Canadiens forward picked up the primary assist on Gallagher’s first period tally. It was also the first assist of Galchenyuk’s career against the Lightning.

4 – Number of shots defenseman Alexei Emelin succeeded in blocking on Tuesday night against the Lightning, tops among all players on both teams. The imposing rearguard now boasts 111 blocks on the season, ranking him fifth on the squad in that category.

4 – Number of Eastern Conference teams, including the Canadiens, that have now clinched a playoff spot. The Habs join the Bruins and Penguins as teams that now have the opportunity to vie for the Stanley Cup in two weeks’ time.
