20220312-Ukraine

MONTREAL -- Deeply touched by the tragic situation that is unfolding in Ukraine, the Montreal Canadiens announced on Saturday that they have pledged to support UNICEF in providing urgent humanitarian aid to victims of this armed conflict.

Prior to their game against the Seattle Kraken, the Canadiens will take a moment to honour all those who have been affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the country's 7.5 million children. Over the past two weeks, the sudden escalation of hostilities in Eastern Ukraine has resulted in over a million of them fleeing the country, while hundreds of thousands of families are being internally displaced. As war continues to ravage the country, UNICEF is appealing for donations to provide critical life-saving support for children and their families in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

To support these efforts, starting at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, volunteers will be on hand to collect cash donations at all Bell Centre entrances. In addition, the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation will exceptionally be donating proceeds from tonight's 50/50 Lottery to UNICEF's Ukraine Emergency Fund. From the moment doors open until the end of the second intermission, fans attending the game will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets from specially identified sellers, dressed in blue shirts and yellow vests for the occasion. The winning ticket number will be announced in-arena during the third period and will be posted online at

Funds raised through these various initiatives will enable UNICEF to scale-up their humanitarian operations in Ukraine and among refugees in neighboring countries. This includes providing access to basic services like safe water, sanitation and hygiene, healthcare and immunization, medical and education supplies, as well as working to ensure that there is immediate help for children and families in need. In Moldova, Poland, and Romania, UNICEF is setting up "Blue Dot" safe spaces that provide crucial support to traveling families and the ability to identify unaccompanied and separated children, ensure their protection, and focus on family reunification.
