MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation is proud to announce a total of $1 million in donations to 72 charitable organizations helping underprivileged children all across the Province of Quebec, thus allowing over 15,000 kids to be more active and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, an amount of $1.4 million will also be dedicated to the construction of the Foundation’s seventh BLEU BLANC BOUGE rink in Laval. Construction is set to begin in August at Emile Park in the Pont-Viau district. The rink is scheduled to open during the winter of 2016.

“On behalf of the children of Laval, I wish to thank all who made this wonderful project possible, especially the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation who is offering our children the gift of play, fun and joy”, declared Mr. Marc Demers, Mayor of Laval. The implementation of such a unique sport facility meets with numerous municipal guidelines cited in Laval’s family and physical activity strategy. The BLEU BLANC BOUGE Program, presented by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Foundation, consists in the construction of refrigerated and multisport outdoor rinks, which are meant to be recreational and gathering centers, where physical exercise allows local underprivileged youth to learn more about adopting healthy lifestyles and enjoying sports.

These community investments are made possible thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s partners and donors as well as the Montreal Canadiens fans who generously supported various fundraising initiatives during the 2014-15 season. The Foundation particularly wishes to recognize the continuous and generous support of Desjardins Securities who announced today a major gift of $450,231, which brings its total company and employee donation amount for the Foundation to more than $4 million over the last 13 years.

"For a decade, over $3 million were donated to causes sponsored by employees of VMD, which shows how the efforts of each and all contributed in helping youth across the province," said Mr. Vincent Hogue, Senior Vice President and Head of Private Client Services. “Our partnership with the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation truly demonstrates the great generosity of the Desjardins Group and Desjardins Securities employees and shows how the well-being of children is dear to our heart.’’

"In this 13th year of collaboration, the Foundation recognizes the extraordinary contribution of Desjardins Securities. Their generosity and dedication reflect the greatness of their commitment to the cause of children in need. We are privileged to count on their continued support," said Mr. Pierre Boivin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The Foundation also wishes to acknowledge the significant support of Canadian Tire, Rio Tinto Alcan and Ford Canada and is grateful for their faithful commitments to the cause of the children we help.
