The Montreal Canadiens Alumni softball tour to stop in several cities across the Province this summer

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens Alumni is pleased to announce the initial dates of their Annual Softball Tour, presented by Canadian Tire. Performing in several towns across the province of Quebec during the summer, the Alumni team will feature many former Canadiens players as well as former Montreal Expos players.

The Canadiens Alumni softball roster will include: Guy Carbonneau, Sergio Momesso, Stéphane Richer, Chris Nilan, Patrice Brisebois, Mathieu Dandenault, Gilbert Delorme, Mathieu Darche, Richard Sévigny, Yvon Lambert, Enrico Ciccone, Dave Morissette, Jocelyn Lemieux, Pierre Dagenais, as well as several former Expos members such as Claude Raymond, Steve Rogers, Derek Aucoin and Denis Boucher.

“Whether it’s hockey or softball, the Alumni come out to play for fun and to spend time together. When a professional athlete retires, the hardest thing is to figure out where you’re going to find that type of friendship. We have that here,” offered Brisebois. “We visit cities where people wouldn’t necessarily have the chance to see the guys play, either because it’s too far or they don’t have the means to do so. They come out to see us and they’re happy. We raise over one million dollars each year. The good we can do in any one of these communities is exceptional.”

Like Brisebois, Raymond is equally sentimental about the Annual Softball Tour and what it affords players and host communities alike.

“I become a kid again when I put on that jersey. In the six or seven games that I played last season, I was introduced to some extraordinary guys and we had a lot of fun. When I got the call again this year, I accepted the offer to play right away because when we’re out on the ball field, we’re happy,” explained Raymond. “Like everybody else, when I was young I always wanted to play for the Canadiens. Now, I’m playing for the Canadiens. I always wanted to go to war with these guys, and now I have the opportunity to do it.”
