The Habs this week - Dec. 6, 2009

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
MONTREAL -  And just like that, the Canadiens are 100. The confetti is still being swept up at the Bell Centre and already Jacques Martin's troops will be welcoming another opponent to kick off the next century in franchise history, before hitting the ice for three more games by the end of the week.

Canadiens vs Flyers - Monday December 7 @ 7:30 p.m.

The Canadiens played an inspired 60 minutes of hockey against the Bruins to ring in the Centennial last Friday, channeling the Ghosts of the Forum against a familiar rival. They'll be looking to do the same on Monday night.

With newly-minted coach Peter Laviolette behind the bench for Philly in place of John Stevens, the Flyers will be looking to nab a first win for their new bench boss against the Habs.

Canadiens @ Senators - Tuesday December 8 @ 7:30 p.m.

The Canadiens head to the nation's capital on Tuesday night to take on the Senators for their second game in two nights.

The two squads have faced off just once so far their year, marked by Alex Kovalev's return to the Bell Centre to steal two points from his former team on October 17. Michael Cammalleri got the ball rolling in that very same game, potting his first goal of the season against the Sens that night, opening the floodgates for the 15 he's already netted on the campaign to date.

Canadiens vs Penguins - Thursday December 10 @ 7:30 p.m.

The Cup champion Penguins also will pay a visit to the Bell Centre. Pittsburgh's big guns will be looking to pick up where they left off when they won each of the first two match-ups of the season, but the Pens will be standing across from a different Habs squad this time around. The injury-riddled Canadiens boasted a Hamilton Bulldogs festival of a lineup in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to the Penguins in their last meeting.

The showdown will feature two of the NHL's top snipers and the league's only two players to have more than one hat-trick this season in Michael Cammalleri and Sidney Crosby, with Cammy having notched his second hat-trick on Friday at the Habs' b-day bash.

Canadiens @ Thrashers - Saturday December 12 @ 7:00 p.m.
The Canadiens will end their busy week with a tilt with the Thrashers in Atlanta. Head coach John Anderson's troops will be coming off a grueling four-game road swing. Look for young Ondrej Pavelec to make his third start against the Habs, while Carey Price or Jaroslav Halak will have their hands full with Ilya Kovalchuk who has 15 goals in only 19 games this season.
