MONTREAL - On the eve of the Canadiens’ final preseason game and with 29 players still at camp, the question remains: who will still be standing when the season gets underway next week in Buffalo?
Among those now enjoying their second day at scenic Mt. Tremblant are three goalies, 11 defenseman and 15 forwards. Up front, most of the talk has been about the strong showing by 19-year-old sensation Max Pacioretty
, who has been rock solid in each of the five preseason games he has played.
Should he manage to crack the Habs' roster to start the season, the Connecticut native won’t have to look very far for advice. No less than seven players currently in the Canadiens dressing room have managed the difficult feat of making their NHL debut before turning 20, including Guillaume Latendresse, who kicked off his NHL career in 2006-07.
That select group also includes Habs Steve Begin (Flames, 1997-98), Roman Hamrlik (Lightning, 1992-93) and the four players in the dressing room to have won the Stanley Cup: Alex Kovalev (Rangers, 1992-93), Alex Tanguay (Avalanche, 1999-00), Mathieu Dandenault (Red Wings, 1995-96) and Patrice Brisebois (Canadiens, 1990-91).
