Creativity, agility, and quick hands can separate good players from great ones and stickhandling is an easy skill to work on before or after practices in a small space. In this episode of Skills and Drills with Les Canadiennes presented by Ford, Karell Emard, Katia Clement-Heydra, and Olympic gold medalist Hilary Knight demonstrate a drill players at any level can use to improve their dekes and dangles.
- Set up three sticks a few feet apart inside a faceoff circle;
- On the whistle, the first player begins stickhandling between and around the sticks, using toe drags, heel drags, and stick flips. Players should keep their feet moving throughout the drill;
- Players should focus on keeping the blade of the stick cupped over the puck to help with control, keeping the head and shoulders up at all times. To increase the level of difficulty, move the sticks closer together;
- Be creative!
