MONTREAL - With the Canadiens' 2019-20 campaign in the rearview mirror, it's time to look back at how it all went down for the Habs this season. Next up: Shea Weber.

The skinny
He may have had a slow start, recording just two points in his first six games, but Weber quickly rebounded and kicked things into high gear for the rest of the first half of the season. When he collected an assist against the Senators on December 11, it was Weber's 24th point in 26 games. That total tied him for second-most productive rearguard in the League dating back to October 17. His 26 total points by that point also put the captain into a tie for fifth-most points by a defenseman through 32 games for the Habs in the past 35 years. Later that month, Weber tied Sergei Gonchar for 10th place among defensemen in NHL history with his 102nd career power play goal.\

By the time the League pause came around, Weber had put together a 36-point campaign. It was the 10th time in his illustrious career that he hit the 15-goal mark, which tied him with Paul Coffey for fifth-most such seasons by a blue-liner all-time. The 35-year-old was the Canadiens' ice time leader, logging an even 24:00 per contest in 2019-20, and he also topped all Montreal skaters in averaging 3:14 of shorthanded ice time per game. The Sicamous, BC native finished second on the team in blocked shots (114) and shots (185).

Playoff punditry
Weber returned from the League-wide pause in full force. In the Pittsburgh series, he was one of only two Canadiens skaters to average more than 25 minutes of ice time per game and put up four points (2G, 2A) and a plus-5 differential to go along with 10 shots. He became just the fourth defenseman in team history to score three goals in his first five games of the playoffs\
, and exited the postseason with three goals, five points, and a plus-3 differential in 10 games.
Goal of the year

They said it
"Weber never surprises me. You can't build a leader; you're born a leader. And since he set foot in Montreal, he hasn't stopped impressing us on and off the ice. He helped create a culture that will last years after he leaves. He's an incredible person, a proud player, and someone who competes every shift. And I'm sure there's no one in the League who would look forward to battling with Shea Weber in the playoffs for at least four games. And with the way he trains and takes care of himself, he still has a lot of great hockey ahead of him." -General manager Marc Bergevin, in his end-of-season media availability in August
