Savage Kovalev

MONTREAL - Bonus family time is one of the few "bright spots" of being quarantined right now.

And a couple of former Habs are taking full advantage of the opportunity to enjoy some workout fun with their hockey-playing sons.

Both Brian Savage and Alex Kovalev have been sharing skills training footage on Instagram from their respective homes of late.

Savage, 49, has three boys under his roof in the Detroit suburb of Northville - Ryan, Red, and Rory.

Ryan was a freshman at Miami University (OH) this past season, Red was a member of the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP), while Rory played in the Compuware AAA ranks.

Savage has a good garage set up to help his youngsters keep their respective games sharp.

And there's some excellent mentorship happening under the Sudbudy, ON native's watch.

This past weekend, the five-time 20-goal scorer - who collected 155 of his 192 career goals in a Canadiens uniform - was filmed feeding saucer passes from in close.

The #DadMitts were on display.

Savage, who coaches in the Compuware system, clearly takes tremendous pride in seeing his boys appreciate the game as much as he still does all these years later post-retirement.

(Watch this clip until the end because you'll get to meet the family's brand new puppy, Ricky!)

As for Kovalev, the 47-year-old Russian is the proud papa of Nikita and Ivan.

Nikita played his second season at the renowned Taft School in Connecticut this past year, while Ivan starred at Greenwich High School.

Kovalev boasts a large training area on his property, complete with some sweet lighting for late-night sessions.

Based on the footage below, it's clear that Nikita and Ivan have both inherited their father's stickhandling genes.

He's been filming some of their handiwork while joining the duo as well.

Kovalev, who amassed 103 goals and 264 points in 314 games with Montreal, has also been keeping himself busy with some 30-mile bike challenges around town...

And a few rounds of golf, too.

That's a pretty darn good swing right there for the Kunlun Red Star (KHL) assistant coach!
