MONTREAL -- The Canadiens announced on Thursday that defenseman Sami Niku has been assigned to the taxi squad after clearing waivers.
In 13 games this season, the Finnish blue liner has registered six assists and a plus-3 differential while averaging 15:17 of ice time. The 25-year-old's most recent game was on January 12 in Boston. A seventh-round pick (198th overall) of the Winnipeg Jets in 2015, Niku signed a one-year deal with the Habs on September 24.
