Preliminary results for NHL All-Star Fan voting

MONTREAL -- The All-Star formula may have changed, but Canadiens fans sure haven’t.

The NHL released its first batch of balloting results on Tuesday for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Carolina in January. Even though the league’s new voting format only empowers fans to select six starters in total, Habs fans are looking to make the most of it.

On the heels of being voted by the fans as an All-Star starter at the NHL’s last midseason classic in 2009 at the Bell Centre, Carey Price again seems poised to make the cut. The Habs goalie may not even be on the official ballot, but that hasn’t stopped his legion of fans from have their voices heard. With already 71,199 votes in the bank, Price leads all goalies with fellow write-in selection Sergei Bobrovsky of the Flyers sitting second.

Up front, the Canadiens boast three forwards in the top 15. Leading the way are the Sidney Crosby (118,755), Alexander Ovechkin (80,169) and Jonathan Toews (79,953) while Michael Cammalleri (9th), Tomas Plekanec (13th) and Brian Gionta (15th) rounded out an impressive first week for the Canadiens.

Piling up votes on the blue line were the Blackhawks’ Duncan Keith (82,968) and Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom (80,723) to lead all defenseman, while P.K. Subban is the top Canadiens vote-getter among D-men at No. 9 with 41,268 and Andrei Markov (24,140) sits 17th.
