BROSSARD – The Canadiens practiced at the Bell Sports Complex Thursday morning, on the eve of the team’s third pre-season game against the Carolina Hurricanes in Quebec City.

- Three defensemen sat out practice due to injury. Davis Drewiske will be out for four weeks with a shoulder ailment suffered during practice on wednesday, while Francis Bouillon and Douglas Murray are both day-to-day with lower-body injuries. Darren Dietz, cut from training camp just a few days ago, has been recalled from Hamilton to fill in the void on the Habs’ blueline.

- Michael McCarron, Patrick Holland, Christian Thomas, Gabriel Dumont, Nick Tarnasky, Sebastian Collberg and goaltender Dustin Tokarski practiced on the other rink.

- On Thursday morning, it was announced that the 2012-13 Jean Beliveau trophy has been awarded to team captain Brian Gionta. The trophy is awarded annually to a Canadiens player who has demonstrated selfless dedication and commitment to the community. A donation of $25,000 is presented by the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation and the award recipient to a Quebec organization that supports a children's cause.
