Following the game, forwards Josh Anderson and Tyler Toffoli, defenseman Jeff Petry and interim head coach Dominique Ducharme spoke with reporters via Zoom.
Here are a few highlights from their respective chats:
Anderson on why the Senators are so tough to play against:
They're a hard-working team. I've said it since game one when we played them, they're well-coached and they've got some young guys in there that just work hard every shift. They reload and just work really well together as a team. By no means did we think tonight was going to be easy. They had that extra step out there and they buried their chances.

Josh Anderson on playing with Corey Perry

Anderson on the addition of Corey Perry to his line with Nick Suzuki:
I think the coaching staff just wanted to get a different look, especially with Toff coming back in. I thought, for the most part, we had a lot of special teams tonight, but I thought our five-on-five play was pretty good. Playing with Perry, he's such a smart player and he puts the puck in good positions for you to retrieve it. I know that we talked before the game and he had some great points. You just try to listen to him and go out there and work hard. As we continue, I think we're going to get better.

Toffoli on where things went wrong against Ottawa:
It was unfortunate. We were kind of just chasing the game the whole time. Obviously, Gally didn't mean to take that penalty. His stick kind of got up a little bit, and from then on we were chasing it. That's not the recipe for success in any game against any team.

Tyler Toffoli on returning to the lineup vs. OTT

Toffoli on his first game back after recovering from a lower-body injury:
I was fortunate enough not to miss too much time. I was skating by myself a little bit, so I was just trying to get my legs under me. It's just one of those things where I had to work myself into the game. I thought I had some really good looks and some really good chances to put us up there.

Petry on a difficult night versus head coach D.J. Smith's contingent:
They came out harder and we didn't match their intensity the way we did in Ottawa. I thought they were on us quick and I don't think we made the best reads.

Jeff Petry on the loss to Ottawa

Petry on the approach to a busy schedule ahead:
We need to rest when we can and stay mentally sharp. Obviously, the body is going to be fatigued, but we've got to make sure that our minds stay in it and we think the game properly.
Ducharme on the Canadiens' disappointing performance:
It was a bad night. We weren't good. We weren't good execution-wise and we weren't good without the puck. We weren't good when it came to winning our puck battles. We weren't good.

Ducharme on takeaways from Saturday's game

Ducharme on the Habs' costly mistakes:
We weren't good without the puck. We didn't communicate well. We can try to find 1,000 reasons to explain things, but we clearly weren't good. We didn't have a good night.
