Numbers Game

QUEBEC CITY - Here's a numerical look at Thursday night's game between the Canadiens and the Washington Capitals at the Videotron Centre.

10- Number of times Brendan Gallagher scored the first goal in a given game last season, leading the Canadiens in that department and tying for second in the League as well. Gallagher was the first player to light the lamp again on Thursday night, beating Capitals goaltender Pheonix Copley at the 3:06 mark of the first period to put Claude Julien's contingent up early. It was his first goal of the preseason.

2:45 - Time elapsed in between snipes by Gallagher and Michael Chaput that put the Canadiens up by a pair of goals by the time the opening frame was 5:51 old. Joel Ward picked up the lone assist in his preseason debut after coming on board on a professional tryout.

2 - Number of Swedes that chipped in on the Habs' third and final goal of the first period with 36 seconds remaining on the clock. Jacob de la Rose found the back of the net, with young gun Lukas Vejdemo collecting the primary assist on the play.

1 - Quebec City native Alexandre Alain picked up the other assist on de la Rose's marker to the delight of the Videotron Centre faithful. It was Alain's first preseason appearance with the Habs.
2:28 - Time elapsed in the middle frame when Artturi Lehkonen upped the Canadiens' lead to 4-0 by capping a superb feed from Gallagher with his first tally of the preseason.

2 - Number of helpers Phillip Danault collected on Thursday night. In addition to assisting on the first goal of the contest by Gallagher, he also registered the lone assist on Rinat Valiev's goal that made it 5-2 for the Habs in the third period.
