WINNIPEG - The Canadiens were edged 2-1 in overtime by the Jets on Saturday night at Bell MTS Place.

Right-winger Josh Anderson was absent for the first time this season due to injury, so interim head coach Dominique Ducharme re-inserted Jake Evans into the lineup.

Goaltender Jake Allen, meanwhile, made his eighth start of the season, and his first since February 21.

It was a special night for defenseman Jeff Petry, who was playing the 700th game of his NHL career.

There were no goals to report in the first period, but rookie blueliner Alexander Romanov came close to beating Jets starter Connor Hellebuyck with a wrist shot from the slot.
Unfortunately, the 21-year-old Russian ended up hitting the post and was denied his second goal of the year.

The Canadiens were outshooting the Jets by a 14-7 margin after 20 minutes.
The Jets struck first with 10:38 elapsed in the second period. While Petry was serving a tripping penalty, Nikolaj Ehlers' point shot beat Allen to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead.

It was Ehlers' 11th goal of the season.
The Canadiens replied just 4:35 later on a goal by Nick Suzuki.
The 21-year-old centerman caught Hellebuyck out of position and beat him with a shot from the goal line to tie things up.

It was Suzuki's fifth goal of the season.
Joel Armia and Ben Chiarot collected the assists on the play.
That's the way things stood after the middle frame, with Montreal outshooting Winnipeg 27-16.
There were no goals to report in the third period, so overtime was required.
The Canadiens peppered Hellebuyck with 14 shots in the final stanza alone, but he denied every single one of them.
By comparison, they allowed just two shots on Allen.

Paul Stastny scored the game-winner for Winnipeg just 36 seconds into the extra frame.
The Canadiens will open a three-game homestand on Tuesday night when they play host to the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.
