MONTREAL -- With the start of NHL training camps less than a month away and the preseason right around the corner, experts everywhere are already hard at work breaking down player performances from last season and making their projections for the upcoming year. Here’s how they see some of the key members of the Habs roster stacking up in 2011-12.
While only one member of the 2010-11 edition of the Habs managed to top the 50 point mark on the season, the predictions for 2011-12 look to make this a bit more interesting. The Super Guide Hockey 2011-12 from The Hockey News has six players, being Tomas Plekanec
, Michael Cammalleri, Andrei Markov
, Erik Cole
, P.K. Subban
and Scott Gomez
all cracking the 50 point plateau this time around.
After leading the Canadiens in points for the past two consecutive seasons, Tomas Plekanec
is yet again the favorite to be the Habs scoring leader for a third straight time. According to the experts, the Czech center should wrap up the season having put up between 64 and 68 points, followed closely by Cammalleri who they predict should notch between 61 and 68.
On the defensive side of the crystal ball, the stars appear to be aligning for Andrei Markov
to have a good year, scoring anywhere between 49 and 54 points, with P.K. Subban
right behind him with a tally of 45 to 52 points according to several of the publications.
When it comes to the Habs MVP of last season, Carey Price
, the predictions are unsurprisingly positive and all foresee the young netminder enjoying another excellent season with around 37 wins. According to The Sports Forecaster, Price could even walk away with a bit of hardware at the end of the year, with the publication claiming he’ll claim the Vezina in 2011-12. The pool guide from Hockey le Magazine places Price second among all goaltenders, edged out only by the Penguins’ Marc-André Fleury.
Now all that’s left to do is wait until April to find out how their predictions play out.
Your turn. What are kind of performances are you predicting for the Habs' players this season?
