Outdoor Women's Classic

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

As part of the New Year’s Eve festivities surrounding the 2016 NHL Winter Classic, the NHL hosted the first-ever Outdoor Women’s Classic ahead of the Alumni Game at Gillette Stadium. Armed with a lineup featuring Canadian Olympians Charline Labonte, Caroline Ouellette, Lauriane Rougeau, and Marie-Philip Poulin, plus former Team USA captain Julie Chu, the CWHL’s Les Canadiennes took on the NWHL’s Boston Pride in the historic game. The teams skated to a 1-1 tie thanks to goals by Canadiennes forward Kim Deschenes and Pride defenseman Blake Boldenn.

The Les Canadiennes bench was a little more crowded than usual on Thursday afternoon, as Rejean Houle, Guy Lafleur and Yvan Cournoyer joined the team’s coaching staff for the event.
