MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract (2021-22) with defenseman Louie Belpedio.

The agreement, which carries a $750,000 value at the NHL level, guarantees $300,000 to Belpedio. He is set to make $225,000 at the AHL level.
The 25-year-old native of Skokie, IL has spent the past four seasons in the Minnesota Wild organization, playing one NHL game in 2020-21 and amassing three goals and five assists in 23 games with the AHL's Iowa Wild, with whom he was assistant captain. In his career, Belpedio has tallied two assists in four NHL games with Minnesota and has totaled 51 points (14 goals and 37 assists) in 165 AHL contests for Iowa.
Prior to making his debut in professional hockey, the 5-foot-11, 191-pound righty sported the colors of the Miami University of Ohio RedHawks in the NCAA from 2014 to 2018. Belpedio wore the C in his last two seasons and posted an excellent record of 25 goals and 58 helpers in 135 career games on the US college circuit. He also won the silver medal as captain of the American squad at the U18 World Championship in 2014.
Belpedio was a third round pick (80th overall) by the Wild in the 2014 NHL Draft.
