Xavier Ouellet

MONTREAL - The Canadiens announced on Monday that they've agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with defenseman Xavier Ouellet (2019-20).

The deal will pay Ouellet $700,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 in the AHL, with $400,000 in guaranteed salary.
Ouellet, 25, recorded three assists in 19 games with the Canadiens last season, and played 47 games for the AHL's Laval Rocket and scored seven goals for 28 points.
He was named captain of the Rocket in February following the departure of Byron Froese.
Born in Bayonne, France, Ouellet had signed a one-year, two-way contract with Montreal last July. He was picked in the second round (48th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in 2011, and has five goals and 26 points in 160 career NHL games with the Red Wings and Canadiens.
