MONTREAL -- Here's a numerical look at the preseason match-up between the Habs and the Sabres at the Bell Centre on Thursday night.

106 – Number of games the Canadiens played without a captain prior to Brian Gionta having the “C” stitched to his sweater on Wednesday afternoon.

1– Number of players Gionta was able to look down on during the opening faceoff, lining up against 5-foot-6 winger Nathan Gerbe to start his first game as captain.

2 – Number of penalties taken by the Sabres on Maxim Lapierre in the first 10 minutes of play, drawing an interference call on Mark Parrish four minutes before being hooked by 6-foot-8 blue-liner Tyler Myers’ super-sized stick.

10:28 – Number of minutes needed by the Habs to register their first shot on goal in the game, finishing the night with 31 shots.

14 – Number years since the Sabres last wore their old blue and gold “swords crossing” jerseys on the road, opting to wear the classic sweaters for 2010-11 season for the first time since April 1, 1996.

15 – Number of seconds between Luke Adam scoring at 1:41 in the first period and Mathieu Darche replying for the home team at 1:56.

180 – Number of days since Ryan O’Byrne last lit the lamp for the Habs prior to notching the Canadiens’ second goal of the night on Thursday. The bruising blue-liner previously scored the game-winner against Buffalo on April 3, 2010 last year.

165 – Number of hours left following the final buzzer until the Canadiens finally get to kick off the regular season in Torotono on October 7.
