Victor Mete

BROSSARD - Things just keep getting better and better for Victor Mete.

After impressing the Canadiens' brass with his stellar play on the back end, general manager Marc Bergevin told the 19-year-old defenseman to begin looking for a place of his own in Montreal on Friday.
"He called me into his office and then kind of told me to find a place now," said Mete, who was given the good news the day after suiting up for his 10th NHL game, which meant that the first year of his entry-level contract officially kicked in. "It was a really special moment."

The Woodbridge, ON native isn't planning on living solo, though. His mother, Mary, will soon be joining him in his new hockey home.
"I think my mom's going to come down and live with me for the first year here, so I kind of feel at home and kind of make my way through the season here and have her help me out," said Mete, who is eager to welcome Mary to the city on a full-time basis. "We have a really good relationship. For her to come down here and kind of teach me how to cook for the upcoming seasons, I think it's really good."
Head coach Claude Julien is certainly in agreement there.
"What's important for him is good nutrition and good rest. It's comforting knowing that his mom is here," mentioned Julien. "It's an ideal situation."

One that the Canadiens' bench boss believes will only help his young charge excel going forward as the regular season rolls on.
"Since the start of training camp, I think he's earned his spot. He's showed good things that have given him the opportunity to stay. He's a player who has been extremely good since the first day of training camp, so I'm not surprised [that he's still with us]," explained Julien, who continues to give Mete every opportunity to shine alongside veteran partner Shea Weber. "The first time I saw him was at development camp and there are a lot of things I like about him. He deserves all the credit. He earned the job. We didn't just give it to him."
