MONTREAL - Brendan Gallagher suffered a fractured left hand during the game against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night. The Canadiens' forward underwent surgery on Thursday evening in Montreal and his recovery is expected to take a minimum of eight weeks.

Gallagher left Wednesday's game early after being struck in the hand by a Shea Weber shot. The 24-year-old winger - who was forced to miss 17 games in 2015-16 after breaking two fingers blocking a Johnny Boychuk shot - has registered six goals and 18 points in 39 games so far this season.
