- The Canadiens have announced the hiring of Shane Churla as Chief Amateur Scout.

Churla, 47 years old, comes to the Canadiens after working as an amateur scout with the Dallas Stars organization.

A sixth-round pick of the Hartford Whalers at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, Churla spent 11 seasons in the NHL, enjoying stints with the Whalers, Flames, North Stars/Stars, Kings and Rangers. In 488 games, he amassed 26 goals, 45 assists while also logging 2,301 penalty minutes.

- Canadiens prospect Dalton Thrower was traded by the Saskatchewan Blades to the Vancouver Giants on Monday. The Canadiens’ second-round pick, 51st overall, at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Thrower scored six goals and 27 points to go with a plus-18 differential in 54 games with the Blades in 2012-13. The 19-year-old defenseman will suit up for his fifth and final WHL campaign next year.
